Ilmatar Offshore’s Regional manager Anna Häger is one of the speakers when Åbo Akademi launches this year’s Europe Forum with a panel discussion on offshore wind (OSW) in the Baltic Sea. The theme for the whole event is Finland’s and EU’s role as a part of the developing international structure, and among the attendees are Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto, and Jyrki Katainen, President of the Finnish future fund Sitra
– It is a great honor to get to appear in such good company. My contribution to the discussion concerns the big responsibility that comes with developing new green energy solutions, says Anna Häger.
Trust as an export product
The Europe Forum is arranged in Turku 24 – 26 August and is an annual introduction for the political season as well as a forum for discussions between citizens and decision makers. The event gathers politicians, organizations, representatives of the business community as well as experts and citizens and facilitates open, science-based discussions on the future of Finland and Europe. The panel discussion where Anna Häger from Ilmatar Offshore is a participant is held in English under the title “Local meets global in the European energy transition: Perspectives on offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea”.
-It is said that the trust that we in the Nordic countries harbor towards each other and towards our democratic society is the gold of the North. It is also said that OSW is the new green oil. So how can we avoid being caught in slow processes that can hamper innovation and development, while ensuring that we are not blinded by the economic possibilities and become entrenched in the same kind of unsustainable energy economy that we have today? These are questions that I have investigated throughout my university studies and my career. Having been deeply engaged for a long time is really paying off at Ilmatar Offshore, and now I have the opportunity to discuss these topics at the Europe Forum, Anna Häger says.
– Åland can become a global and unique example where societal trust is combined with local drivers and synergies within public-private partnerships, benefitting more people in the long run.
