On Friday, October 28, the new season of the popular tv series Arktiset Vedet (arctic waters) by Warner Bros. Discovery will be aired. The two final episodes of the series, which air in December, have been filmed in Åland. As a fishing companion, the series introduces Ilmatar Offshore’s own Martti Leinonen.
It is the eleventh season of Warner Bros. Discovery’s Finnish series Arktiset Vedet that will be launched, and the third season sponsored by Ilmatar. In addition to fantastic fishing destinations, nature experiences and great fishing tips, the program also discusses questions related to the local environment and sustainability. During the last seven seasons, Arktiset Vedet has also collaborated with the World Wildlife Fund, WWF.
During the expedition on Åland, Ilmatar Offshore’s Marine Advisor Martti Leinonen was invited onboard as a fishing companion, but also to discuss the energy systems of the future and wind power as a part of these.
– I am a passionate fisher, hunter and wilderness person, and this gave me a chance to combine these interests with talking about our investment in offshore wind north of Åland. For me, it is very important that we do this in a way that is sustainable in the long term, maintaining a balance within the environment, Martti Leinonen explains.
The production team has previously fished on Åland once before during season five. The series’ executive producer Juhani Henriksson explains why the team is nor returning:
– Åland is an exquisitely beautiful island with fantastic environment, nature and marine areas. Here, we can fish pike, perch, and sea-trout in clear waters, and we can also engage in other adventures, such as cycling or kayaking, he says.
In addition, we love cooking with locally produced raw materials in the program. Åland offers a wide variety of local tastes.
The two half-hour episodes of Arktiset Vedet filmed on Åland are aired on TV5, Kutonen and Discovery+ in Finland. The episodes air on December 2, but are available to subscribers on Discovery+ a week earlier. The series is made in Finnish.
