Energy infrastructure must be continuously updated. The future is electrified and the current electricity grid must be developed and expanded. According to expert organization Sitra, Finland’s electricity demand will be doubled by 2050, and offshore wind is the cheapest way to produce all this energy.
Consequently, a great expansion of the electricity grid is pending. In the decades to come, extensive investments will be made in the grid, electricity production and storage as well as the expansion of transmission cables both within and beyond national borders. The current plans for the distribution grid closer to consumers, however, are deemed sufficient.
Expanding the electrical grid is the responsibility of the public sector and is required to maintain good public economy.
